Mary Beth Hampe, MD

I am so eager to meet you!

I grew up near Tampa, Florida, and attended University of Florida in Gainesville for both undergraduate and medical school. In medical school, I quickly fell in love with primary care and headed to Family Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina. I stayed for an additional year to pursue a fellowship in dermatologic and procedural skills. As a primary care physician throughout residency, I found myself making clinical decisions based on the mysterious preferences of a patient’s insurance plan and I knew this is not how I wanted to practice. I quickly learned that conventional medicine will always value profits over patient’s best interests. Taking care of patients in a comprehensive and holistic way has always made more sense to me, which is why I am ecstatic to be joining Unorthodoc. I hope to be a sigh of relief for patients who are looking for more compassion and time alongside thoughtful, evidence-based care.

In my intern year I met my beautiful wife, Maria, who is also a Family Physician, and we are happily married with one cat – perhaps another on the way. We live in Durham and love exploring our city with our friends and family.
